Come to the Table
Todayâs key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. - Psalm 119:49 (NLT)
Thereâs something powerful about being invited to the table, especially when you feel like you donât belong there. Thatâs what makes the story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 so beautiful. He was the grandson of King Saul, the very king who tried to kill David. After Saul and Jonathan died, Mephibosheth ended up crippled and hidden away in a place called Lo-debar, which literally means âno wordâ or âno pasture.â A dry place. A fearful place.
He probably thought his story was over. That heâd be forgotten. Worse, that if King David ever found out he was alive, heâd be punished just for being who he was.
But that wasnât Davidâs heart at all.
Instead, David remembered his covenant with Jonathan, Mephiboshethâs father, and sent for him, not to harm him, but to restore him. David gave him back his family land and gave him a permanent seat at the royal table. Not because Mephibosheth had earned it, but because of love.
Thatâs grace. And itâs exactly what God has done for us through Jesus.
How many of us, like Mephibosheth, have lived in a âLo-debarâ kind of place? Maybe we've believed lies that say weâre too broken, too far gone, or that God is disappointed in us. But the truth is, our Heavenly Father is always calling us to His table. Not to judge us, but to restore us. Because of Jesus, weâre not only welcomed. weâre wanted.
Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where youâve been hiding from Godâs grace, thinking you donât belong at the table?
Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me even when I feel broken or unworthy. Help me to receive all that Youâve prepared for me. I choose to take my seat at Your table and live from a place of grace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
