Come to the Table

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. - Psalm 119:49 (NLT)

There’s something powerful about being invited to the table, especially when you feel like you don’t belong there. That’s what makes the story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 so beautiful. He was the grandson of King Saul, the very king who tried to kill David. After Saul and Jonathan died, Mephibosheth ended up crippled and hidden away in a place called Lo-debar, which literally means “no word” or “no pasture.” A dry place. A fearful place.

He probably thought his story was over. That he’d be forgotten. Worse, that if King David ever found out he was alive, he’d be punished just for being who he was.

But that wasn’t David’s heart at all.

Instead, David remembered his covenant with Jonathan, Mephibosheth’s father, and sent for him, not to harm him, but to restore him. David gave him back his family land and gave him a permanent seat at the royal table. Not because Mephibosheth had earned it, but because of love.

That’s grace. And it’s exactly what God has done for us through Jesus.

How many of us, like Mephibosheth, have lived in a “Lo-debar” kind of place? Maybe we've believed lies that say we’re too broken, too far gone, or that God is disappointed in us. But the truth is, our Heavenly Father is always calling us to His table. Not to judge us, but to restore us. Because of Jesus, we’re not only welcomed. we’re wanted.

Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where you’ve been hiding from God’s grace, thinking you don’t belong at the table?

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me even when I feel broken or unworthy. Help me to receive all that You’ve prepared for me. I choose to take my seat at Your table and live from a place of grace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
