Come Close Again

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first. - Revelation 2:4 (NLT)

There is something powerful about first love. It is fresh. It is focused. It is full of passion. When you first came to know Jesus, remember how everything felt new? How you could not get enough of His Word? How worship came easily, and your heart felt full?

Sometimes, life gets busy. Faith becomes familiar. And little by little, that love that once burned bright starts to flicker. It doesn’t mean you have turned your back on God, it just means you may need to pause and come close again.

Jesus doesn’t say these words in Revelation to condemn. He says them because He cares. He wants your heart. Not just your habits or your good intentions. He wants relationship. He wants to sit with you in the quiet and remind you who you are in Him. He wants to restore that spark that once lit up your soul.

The good news is that first love can be found again. Not by trying harder or doing more but by returning. Return to His feet. Return to grace. Return to that place where His love became real to you. Let go of the guilt. Let go of the pressure. Just come.

He is not disappointed in you. He is simply inviting you to remember. To realign. To rest in the love that never stopped pursuing you.

Reflection Question: What is one small way you can return to your first love with Jesus today?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for loving us with a steady and unfailing love. Forgive us for the times we’ve let other things take Your place. Help us return to You with fresh hearts and renewed joy. Restore that first love within us, and even deepen it. We come close again today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
