Come and See

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’ ‘Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked. ‘Come and see,’ said Philip. - John 1:45-46 (NIV)

Have you ever dismissed something too quickly, only to later realize it was exactly what you needed? That’s kind of what happened to Nathanael. When Philip told him about Jesus, Nathanael’s first reaction was skepticism. “Nazareth? Really?” It wasn’t that he didn’t believe that the Messiah would come at some point in history, it’s just that Jesus didn’t show up in the way Nathanael expected.

But Philip didn’t try to argue or convince him with facts. He simply said, “Come and see.” And that invitation changed everything.

Sometimes, we do the same thing with God’s plans. We have expectations of how He should show up in our lives, and when things don’t look like we imagined, it’s easy to question, hesitate, or even dismiss what He’s doing. But Jesus often shows up in unexpected places, through quiet moments, unlikely people, or even in seasons we didn’t ask for.

Maybe today, you’re unsure about where God is leading you. Maybe you're skeptical about how He could bring good out of your current situation. Here’s the encouragement: don’t walk away too soon. Don’t let your assumptions block you from experiencing something amazing. Just like Philip told Nathanael, God says to us, “Come and see.”

Step a little closer. You might just discover something more wonderful than you expected.

Reflection Question: Where might God be inviting you to “come and see” today, even if it doesn’t look the way you thought it would?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for always inviting us closer to You. Help us not to dismiss what You’re doing just because it doesn’t match our expectations. Give us open hearts, open eyes, and the courage to follow You even when we don’t fully understand. Teach us to trust that when You say “come and see,” what we’ll find is always good. In Jesus Name, Amen.
