Checkmate
Todayās key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? - Luke 12:28 (NLT)
Life can sometimes feel like a high-stakes chess game. You try to move forward, but every time you do, something or someone seems to block your next step. Maybe itās an unexpected bill, a health challenge, or just a season where nothing seems to go your way.
Jacob knew all about that. In Genesis 30, he was locked in a back-and-forth game with his Uncle Laban, a master manipulator who kept changing the rules. Laban tricked Jacob with his marriage, changed his wages multiple times, and even tried to steal the very animals that were supposed to be Jacobās reward. But through it all, God had the ultimate strategy.
God gave Jacob an unconventional idea, breeding spotted and speckled sheep using tree branches. Sounds weird, right? But it worked! Why? Because it wasnāt about the method, it was about the God who gave it. And just like that, Jacob went from being cheated to walking in crazy blessing. Total checkmate.
Hereās the takeaway: when life seems stacked against you, God still has the final move. Heās not wringing His hands in worry, Heās already ahead of the game, working things out in ways we canāt always see. And in Luke 12, Jesus reminds us that if God takes care of wildflowers, Heāll definitely take care of you.
So donāt let fear make your decisions. Donāt let stress take over your strategy. Trust the One who sees the whole board and loves you more than you can imagine.
Reflection Question: Is there one area where you feel the odds are stacked against you? If so, could you trust God to make the next move?
Prayer: Father, thank You that Youāre always one step ahead. Help me to let go of worry and trust You fully. Show me Your plan, even when it looks nothing like mine. I believe Youāre working behind the scenes. In Jesus Name, Amen.
