Called to Grow

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. - Hebrews 5:12 (NLT)

There comes a time when growth is not just expected, it is necessary. We all start somewhere. In our faith journey, we begin by learning the basics. God loves us. Jesus saves us. Grace is a gift. But as we walk with Him, He invites us to grow deeper. To move from simply receiving truth to living it and eventually sharing it.

The writer of Hebrews is speaking to a group of believers who have been walking with God for a while. They have seen His faithfulness. They have heard the teachings. But something has stalled. Instead of progressing in their faith, they are stuck in place. Still dependent on the basics. Still unsure. Still needing to be fed instead of feeding others.

This is not a message of shame. It is a call to step forward. To mature. To take what you know and begin to apply it in ways that strengthen you and help others too. You do not need to have it all together. You just need to keep growing.

Think about it like this. A healthy child grows because they are nourished. They are cared for. But they also begin to try new things. They stumble. They learn. And they keep going.

That is how it works in our spiritual life too. Growth is not about perfection. It is about movement. It is about allowing God to shape you through His word so you can live it out and eventually help someone else do the same.

So today, embrace the growth. Step into the solid food of truth. You were made to grow strong in grace and faith.

Reflection Question: What is one area of your faith where God may be inviting you to grow deeper or take a new step?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your patience with me as I grow. Help me not to stay stuck in the basics but to press deeper into Your truth. Give me the desire and strength to grow in faith and grace, and to live in a way that encourages others to do the same. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
