Called in the Ordinary
"Forty years later, in the desert near Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush.” Acts 7:30 (NLT)
Moses wasn’t standing on a stage. He wasn’t leading a crowd or performing miracles. He was alone in the desert, tending sheep. Forty years had passed since Egypt. By now, he probably thought his chance to do anything meaningful had slipped away. But that’s when God showed up.
God didn’t call Moses when he felt strong and confident. He called him when he was tucked away in obscurity, doing the same thing day after day. And He called him through something as unexpected as a burning bush that would not burn up.
That’s often how God works. He meets us in the quiet. He speaks through the ordinary. And He calls us not because we have it all together, but because He’s ready to do something new through us.
Psalm 128 tells us that those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways will eat the fruit of their labor and enjoy blessings and well-being. That kind of life starts not with a platform or title, but with obedience in the daily, unseen spaces.
Maybe you’re in a season that feels repetitive or small. Maybe it feels like nothing important is happening. But God is still writing your story. His call can come at any time, even when you least expect it. Stay faithful where you are. He knows how to find you.
Reflection Question: What small or ordinary place in your life might God be using to prepare you for something greater?
Prayer: Father, thank You for seeing me right where I am. Even in the quiet places, I trust that You are working. Help me stay faithful in the everyday moments, knowing You can call and use me at any time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
