Called and Sent
“One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.’” Acts 13:2 (NLT)
There is something powerful that happens when we pause to worship, pray, and listen. In Acts 13, we find a group of believers doing just that. They were not trying to force anything or figure out every detail. They were simply ministering to the Lord, creating space for His voice to lead the way.
In that atmosphere of worship and surrender, the Holy Spirit spoke clearly. He didn’t just encourage them. He gave them direction. He called Barnabas and Saul into a specific assignment and invited the church to partner with what He was about to do.
God is still speaking today. He still calls, leads, and sends. Sometimes we think we have to have everything figured out before we can move forward, but often God simply asks for our availability. When our hearts are turned toward Him, He knows how to make His purpose known.
Proverbs 17:16 asks what good it is to acquire wisdom if we have no heart for it. In other words, knowledge alone is not enough. God is looking for people whose hearts are fully His. When we align our hearts with His, we begin to walk in wisdom and step into the assignments He has already prepared.
Whether your “special work” is across the world or across the street, God has something meaningful for you to do. And it begins with a heart of worship and a willingness to listen.
Reflection Question: What might God be calling you to do in this season, and are you making space to hear His voice?
Prayer: Father, I quiet my heart before You. Speak to me and show me where You are calling me to serve. Help me to follow You with trust and obedience, knowing You always go before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
