Build It

Now seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that you can bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the Lord’s name. — 1 Chronicles 22:19 (NLT)

In 1 Chronicles 22, we see David preparing for something incredibly significant: the construction of the Lord’s Temple. He gathered the finest materials, enlisted skilled workers, and set everything in motion for a building that would honor God’s name. It was meant to be magnificent, a holy place that would house the presence of God.

But here’s the thing. In the New Testament, we learn that the temple isn’t just a physical building. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul reminds us that we, as believers, are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t dwell in buildings made by human hands. He dwells in us, in the hearts of those who follow Him. This truth is humbling. The Creator of the universe has chosen us to be His dwelling place.

Peter takes it a step further in 2 Peter 1:3, telling us that God has provided everything we need to live an abundant life, one filled with His presence and purpose. This ā€œabundant lifeā€ is from the Greek word ā€œZoe.ā€ It’s also the same word used in John 10:10 as Jesus speaks of a life that’s not just full but overflowing with God’s blessings, vitality, and purpose. Jesus didn’t come to give us a mediocre life. He came to give us an abundant life, and through Him, we have all the resources we need to build a life that honors God.

Just like David prepared for the Temple, God has already supplied everything we need to build our own lives into beautiful, holy sanctuaries for Him. We simply need to receive His gifts and live by faith.

Reflection Question: How can you intentionally build your life today to honor God’s presence in you?

Prayer: Father, thank You for making me Your temple and for giving me everything I need to live a full, abundant life in Christ. Help me to build my life in a way that honors You, and to always seek Your guidance in all things. I receive Your grace and abundant life by faith. In Jesus name, Amen.
