Boldy Ask

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! - Psalm 61:1 (NLT)

Sometimes we think we need to tiptoe into God’s presence, afraid to ask too much or speak too freely, as if our requests might bother Him. But Scripture paints a very different picture of our heavenly Father. Far from being distant or disinterested, He invites us to come boldly, to cry out, to ask, and to believe.

In Psalm 61:1, David doesn't whisper a polite request, he cries out with boldness: “O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer!” His tone is urgent, heartfelt, and confident that God will respond. And God did.

This same kind of boldness is seen in Numbers 27, where the five daughters of Zelophehad stepped forward and made a courageous petition for their inheritance. In their culture, what they asked for was unprecedented. But God responded to their boldness with favor, saying, “The claim of the daughters of Zelophehad is legitimate…” (Numbers 27:7). He granted them land rights, an act of justice and grace that was recorded for generations.

The writer of Hebrews gives us a New Covenant perspective when he says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…” (Hebrews 4:16, NIV). We don’t come to a throne of judgment, we come to a throne of grace. Through Jesus, we have full access to God, not as beggars, but as beloved sons and daughters.

So yes, it is absolutely okay to boldly ask. Grace doesn’t silence our voice, it empowers it. The bolder your request, the greater opportunity for God to show His mercy, kindness, and faithfulness.

Reflection Question: Is there a bold prayer or request that you have been holding back from bringing to God?

Prayer: Father, thank You for inviting me to Your throne of grace. Give me the courage to bring my full heart to You, to ask boldly, trust deeply, and receive freely. I believe You care about every detail of my life, and I come to You today with confidence. In Jesus Name, Amen.
