Above The Baggage

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh. - John 6:51 (NLT)

In 1 Samuel 10, Israel is gathered together to appoint a king. Saul is chosen, but when they go to find him, he’s nowhere to be found. Where was he? Hiding among the baggage.

Even though Saul was chosen to be king, he felt unworthy and hid behind his insecurities.

Let’s face it, we all have some “baggage” of our own. Maybe it’s past hurts, fears, regrets, or even physical challenges. Those things weigh us down and keep us from stepping into the fullness of who we’re meant to be. But here’s the good news: just because we have baggage doesn’t mean we have to live in it forever.

Saul’s story didn’t end with him hiding among the baggage. When they found him, he was “head and shoulders” above everyone else. In the same way, God wants to help you rise above the baggage in your life. How? By lifting up Jesus. In John 6, Jesus says He is the “living bread” that brings eternal life. This bread is His body, offered for us. The more we focus on Him, the more we’re able to rise above the things that try to hold us back.

The key to leaving our baggage behind is to behold Jesus, His body and blood, His sacrifice, and His love for us. As we take time to reflect on what He did for us, we allow His life-giving power to transform us. We can’t change our past, but through Him, we can rise above the baggage and walk in freedom.

Reflection Question: Is there any baggage you are still holding onto, and how can you lift Jesus above it in your life today?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for offering Your body and blood for me. Help me to lift You above my struggles, my past, and my baggage. I want to be transformed by Your love and grace, and I trust that You’ll help me rise above it all. In Jesus Name, Amen.
