A Life Cleansed by Grace
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. - Psalm 39:7 (NLT)
In Leviticus 13, we see God's instructions for the Israelites concerning skin diseases. These detailed instructions highlight the importance of purity and the necessity of recognizing when something is unclean. Skin diseases, often associated with impurity, required individuals to live in isolation, separated from the community. In essence, their condition was a symbol of brokenness and distance from God’s holiness.
But there is a deeper message hidden within this passage, one that points toward the grace that Jesus Christ offers to each of us. We are all "unclean" because of our sin, spiritually separated from God. In our unworthiness, we can often feel like outcasts, isolated because of our failures, mistakes, and sins. Yet, God's grace comes to cleanse us, not through isolation, but through restoration.
In the New Testament, we are reminded that Jesus healed the sick and touched the untouchable. He didn’t just see people’s external afflictions; He healed their hearts. Jesus came to take away our sin, to pronounce us "clean," not because of our righteousness, but because of His sacrifice on the cross. What a profound reminder that even though we are spiritually unclean, God's grace has made us clean through Christ.
Reflection Question: Is there any area in your life where you feel unclean or distant from God? How does knowing that Christ cleanses us from all unrighteousness give you hope?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace that cleanses us, even when we feel unworthy. Thank You for sending Jesus, who touches the untouchable and heals the broken. Help me to remember that, in Christ, I am made clean and whole. May I always walk in the freedom of Your grace. In Jesus name, Amen.
