A Better Covenant

From Today’s One Year Bible Reading Plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given the special ministry of serving in the heavenly sanctuary, the true place of worship, and he is the ultimate fulfillment of the covenant God promised. - Hebrews 8:1 (NLT)

There is something so comforting about knowing we serve a God who does not leave us hanging. The old covenant God made with Israel was full of rules and sacrifices that pointed toward something greater. Hebrews 8 reminds us that Jesus is the High Priest who has entered the true heavenly sanctuary. He is the perfect fulfillment of what God promised through the old covenant.

Instead of a list of do’s and don’ts, Jesus offers us a better covenant written on our hearts. That means He wants an intimate relationship with us that changes us from the inside out. It’s not about trying harder or following a checklist. It’s about resting in what Jesus has already done and allowing His grace to transform us.

Psalm 106 shows us how often the Israelites forgot God’s faithfulness and turned away, but God never gave up on them. That same grace is available to us today. When we stumble or stray, Jesus is still our High Priest, interceding for us, ready to bring us back to the heart of God.

Proverbs 27:9 says, “The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.” Jesus is that perfect friend and counselor who knows us better than anyone and wants to guide us gently into the abundant life He offers.

Today, take a moment to thank Jesus for the better covenant He has made with you and rest in His faithful love that never fails.

Reflection Question: How can you invite Jesus to write His covenant on your heart today and guide your steps with His gentle counsel?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being our High Priest and for the better covenant You offer. Help us to rest in Your grace and to follow Your gentle guidance every day. Write Your love on our hearts and lead us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
