Undivided Heart

O Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me. - Psalm 35:1 (NLT)

There’s a deep comfort in knowing we don’t have to fight every battle alone. Life throws unexpected challenges, unfair moments, confusion, and wounds. David’s cry in Psalm 35 isn’t a sign of weakness but of trust. He’s not proving his strength; he’s saying, ā€œGod, I need You to step in.ā€

This prayer comes from an undivided heart, a heart that knows where to run and lays down its burdens with confidence, trusting God’s faithfulness.

Nehemiah 13 shows a different battle, the fight for spiritual focus and purity. When Nehemiah returns, he finds compromise creeping in: the temple neglected, boundaries blurred. Instead of frustration, Nehemiah leans on God’s grace and begins restoring what was broken.

Sometimes the hardest battle is internal, the tug-of-war between distraction and devotion, self-reliance and surrender.

The good news? God knows our inner battles and stands with us. Like David, we can cry out. Like Nehemiah, we can return, reset, and refocus. God remains faithful, fighting for us and drawing our hearts back to Him.

Reflection Question: Where in your life do you feel the tension between distraction and devotion? How can you invite God to fight for your focus today?

Prayer: Father, thank You that I don’t have to fight alone. You see every struggle, every distraction, and every place where I feel overwhelmed. Help me return to You with an undivided heart. Fight for me in ways I cannot fight for myself. I trust You with every battle. In Jesus name, Amen.
