The Advocate

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. - John 14:16 (NLT)

Have you ever had someone really show up for you? Maybe it was a friend who stood by you when life got messy, or someone who spoke up for you when you didn’t have the words. That’s what Jesus was promising when He talked about the Holy Spirit, someone who would always be there, backing you up, leading you, and never leaving your side.

Right before Jesus went back to the Father, He told His disciples something they weren’t ready to hear, that He was leaving. Imagine how that must’ve felt. They’d spent every day with Him, watched Him perform miracles, teach truth, and love people in a way the world had never seen. He had become their everything.

But Jesus reassured them, “You’re not going to be alone. I’m sending the Advocate.” That word “Advocate” literally means someone who stands beside you and speaks on your behalf. The Holy Spirit wasn’t a backup plan, He was the continuation of God’s presence, just in a new way.

And the beautiful truth? He’s still with us today. If you’ve ever felt unsure, overwhelmed, or just plain tired, the Holy Spirit is right there. Ready to give you wisdom when you’re stuck. Comfort when you’re hurting. Strength when you’re weak. And the best part? He never leaves. Ever.

This isn’t about trying harder, it’s about leaning in. The Holy Spirit is a gift from a loving God who knew we’d need help. And He delights in helping us.

Reflection Question: Is there anywhere in your life you could use a little more guidance, peace, or strength right now? If so, have you invited the Holy Spirit into that space?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for always being with me. I don’t want to do life in my own strength. I welcome You to fill every part of my heart, guide me today, and remind me that I’m never alone. In Jesus Name, Amen.
