Living on the Winning Side

Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com

Answer my prayers, O LORD, for your unfailing love is wonderful. Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful. - Psalm 69:16 (NLT)

Have you ever faced a defeat that just didn’t make sense? You thought you were doing all the right things, praying, trusting God, staying faithful, and still, somehow, you came up short. That’s how Joshua felt after Israel’s shocking loss at the hands of a tiny enemy in Ai.

Joshua knew this wasn’t how things were supposed to go. God had promised victory, and Joshua believed that. So when they lost, he didn’t ignore it or brush it off. He got honest with God and said, “Something’s off here, and I need You to show me what’s going on.” And God did. He revealed that Israel had stepped out of alignment, His divine order had been broken. Once that was corrected, victory followed.

It’s a powerful reminder that God’s order isn’t about perfection; it’s about priority. When we keep Him first, not just in our words, but in our hearts and choices, we position ourselves to walk in His strength and victory.

Paul dealt with something similar in the Corinthian church. They had gotten out of sync with God’s design, allowing sin to settle in and even be celebrated. Paul’s words were strong, but full of grace. He wasn’t trying to shame them; he was trying to wake them up to who they really were, victorious people called to live in God’s best.

We’re not meant to walk around defeated, discouraged, or stuck in cycles that keep us down. Through Jesus, we’ve been placed on the winning side. And when we feel like something’s not working, the best thing we can do is take it to God, honestly, humbly, and with a heart that’s ready to listen.

Reflection Question: Is there an area in your life where you feel out of alignment with God’s best? If so, how might He be inviting you to return to His order today?

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me enough to lead me back when I get off course. Help me to keep You first and trust Your ways. Show me where I’ve stepped out of alignment and give me the grace to walk in Your order, because I know that’s where victory lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
