Divine Protection
Today’s key verse is taken from the daily Bible reading plan at BibleInAYearOnline.com
Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. - Psalm 40:11 (NLT)
When little Casey Hathaway wandered into the cold, rainy woods of North Carolina, the odds were stacked tragically against him. Lost in the wilderness at just three years old, without food, shelter, or warmth, his story should have ended in heartbreak. But instead, it became a stunning testimony to God's divine protection.
After nearly three days alone, Casey was found alive, scratched but safe, claiming a “purple bear ” had stayed with him and told him everything would be okay. While we may not understand all the details, we can be sure of one thing: God was with that little boy. Whether He sent an angel, a comforting vision, or His very presence in a form a child could understand, God kept His hand on Casey.
Psalm 40:11 speaks of God's unfailing love and faithfulness as sources of protection. This isn’t wishful thinking, it’s a promise. The Hebrew concept of “sozo,” the Greek word for “saved,” includes not only salvation from sin but deliverance, healing, preservation, and safety. Divine protection is part of our inheritance as children of God.
We may not always recognize how God protects us. Sometimes it’s as dramatic as surviving a forest alone at age three. Other times, it’s the accident that didn’t happen, the job we didn’t get, or the delay that kept us safe. Regardless of the method, His love never sleeps, and His angels are still on assignment.
Reflection Question: Can you remember a time when God protected you in a way you didn’t fully understand until later?
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. I may not always see how You protect me, but I know You are my refuge and shield. Teach me to trust Your presence, even when the path is uncertain. I place my life in Your hands. In Jesus name, Amen.
