All by Himself
From Today’s Reading at BibleInAYearOnline.com
“May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere.” - Psalm 67:2 NLT
Have you ever needed God to come through in a way that only He could? I have had moments in life where the situation was just too big, too overwhelming, and too far out of my control. One particular moment still stands out clearly in my mind even though it happened more than twenty years ago. It was one of those moments where I prayed and hoped God would show up in a big way. And He did.
That kind of situation reminds me of a powerful moment in Isaiah chapters 36 and 37. The people of Judah were being threatened by King Sennacherib of Assyria, a man with a terrifying track record. He had conquered kingdoms left and right, and now he had his eyes set on Jerusalem. He sent messengers to intimidate and mock not just the people, but their God. His pride went beyond threatening armies. He dared to insult the Lord.
But God did not stay silent. He heard the prayers of King Hezekiah and saw the fear of the people. And in a way that no one expected, He moved. Isaiah 37 tells us that during the night, the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. No sword from Judah was lifted. No battle strategy was needed. God delivered His people all by Himself.
That is the kind of power we place our hope in. First Peter reminds us that our faith and trust are in the God who raised Jesus from the dead. If He can conquer death, He can handle your situation too.
Reflection Question: What area of your life do you need to fully trust God to handle all by Himself?
Prayer: Father, thank You that You are my deliverer. You see what I face and You are never overwhelmed by it. Help me to trust You more deeply today, knowing that even when I feel helpless, You are mighty to save. In Jesus name, amen.
